The top of the day to you,

Last March (2001) I wrote an article on Fitness and the real benefits of a fitness program. So this time I decided to share with you a system for you to adopt to get a great fitness program in.

First of all you don't have to run a marathon, do triathlons like my great friend Tony Schiller in Minnesota and who in my view and thousands of other fans is probably the best Triathlete in the world.

But the point I'm making here is that all you have to do to have a great fitness program is to (not to steal from the Nike commercial) just do it. Did you realize that when you go from the sitting to the standing position you used 102 moves just to do that and when you sat back down (not using your hands to push yourself in and out or the chair, sofa, etc.) you used another 102 moves. All we need to do is to do something. And do something you love so you can look forward to each day.

I was listening to a Brian Tracey interview by Jay Abraham and Brian mentioned something that I challenged myself to do. If money had NO bearing whatsoever, what would your perfect lifestyle be? Write it down as you would like to have it, no matter how bizarre or impossible it might seem with your present circumstances the way they are. Stick it on the wall where you can see it each day and DON'T DISCUSS IT WITH A SOUL! People are always down on what they're not up on.

So I thought why not try that just to see what happens. Well son-of-a-gun if it isn't turning out to be a reality. It really turned out to be a goal sheet. Check this out:

Your present circumstances don't determine where you can go, they merely determine your starting place. The purpose of goals is to focus your attention on your future. Magical things will begin when you set them. Your power to accomplish becomes a reality when you have a goal.

Your mind reaches toward achievement when it has clear objectives. Goals give you a starting place and a destination. Just focus the full power of all you are on what you have a burning desire to attain, and you will achieve success. Act on your dreams and they are yours.

So I thought let me write that down but also write down my Perfect Fitness Routine. And man what a difference when you know exactly what you are going to do for that day. Your body just says, “OK now, do this and you do it.” It's the darndest thing.

I like to do the Triathlon Training, as it's an ideal rounded workout for the body involving Cardiovascular Conditioning and Muscular Development. So here is what I would encourage you to do. Your fitness routine should always involve both Cardiovascular Conditioning and Muscular Development. And I do the bike 2 days a week, the walk/run 2 days a week and the Swim (April 15-November 15 only) in the Ocean 2 days a week. From November 15-April 15 I do upper body training on a pull up bar and weight training.

But every morning I do a 1-mile walk and I have 6 different routes so I don't get bored with it. This mile walk always gets the day started while I listen to the sounds and smell the cleanest air of the day while getting my body lubed with the benefits of fitness.

So let me tell you that there are 3 motions of the muscular system: 1) Push, 2) Pull and 3) Stretch. If you do a little of all 3 then you will receive so many more benefits than doing just a whole bunch of one or two.

Now let it be known that you only need to do one Hard Workout on any one event per week. Your greatest success of your fitness program relies heavily on two areas…NEVER OVER TRAIN and GET LOTS OF REST. I'm attaching my routine for you to see if it can help you put together your ideal program and if this helps you then I will feel this article will have served it's purpose.
